Policy Brief #10 – Improving the Measurement of Air Compressor Efficiency – Learnings from the EMSA Round Robin
Accurate and reproducible efficiency measurement is a prerequisite for effective energy performance policy. This new EMSA Policy Brief describes the robustness of current methods for determining the isentropic efficiency of small, packaged air compressors.
Policy Brief #0 – Electric Motor Systems Platform Overview
This Policy Brief gives an overview of EMSA’s work focus until 2029 and highlights relevant work outcomes to date.
Policy Brief # 9 – Electric motor systems: why are they important?
This Policy Brief assesses the importance of electric motor systems in the global energy system. In 2023, electric motor systems were responsible for 53% of global electricity consumption. Their share in electricity consumption varies widely across sectors: 72% in industry, 36% in buildings, 87% in agriculture and 86% in the transportation sector.
Policy Brief #8 – Wide Bandgap Industrial Variable Speed Drives Research Roadmap
This Policy Brief highlights the importance of wide bandgap power semiconductors in industrial variable speed drives and introduces the Research Roadmap developed by EMSA in cooperation with PECTA. The Research Roadmap aims to facilitate the adoption of this new technology by addressing key challenges with dedicated research topics over the course of the next few years.
Policy Brief #7 – Digitalisation in electric motor driven systems: key findings from four reports
This Policy Brief summarises the key findings of four recent EMSA publications on digitalisation in electric motor systems.
Policy Brief #6 – Round Robin for Variable Speed Drives
This Policy Brief summarises the key findings of the international Round Robin for Variable Speed Drives.
Policy Brief #5 – Coordination between IEC and ISO standards for efficient electric motor driven systems
This policy brief explains the significance of an ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) / IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Joint Advisory Group (JAG 22) established in October 2021.
Policy Brief #4 – Digital technologies for motor systems
This Policy Brief shows the key findings of the EMSA report Classification of digitalisation technologies for electric motor driven systems.
Policy Brief #3 – Digitalisation in electric motor driven systems
This Policy Brief summarises the key findings of a global survey on digitalisation in motor systems.
Policy Brief – Policy Guidelines for Pumps, Fans and Compressors
This Policy Brief is based on studies by the IEA 4E Technology Collaboration Programme (4E TCP) into energy efficiency policy measures for pumps, fans and compressors, and the
Policy Brief #2 – Policy Guidelines for Electric Motor Systems
This briefing summarises the key findings and recommendations of the EMSA report: Policy Guidelines for Electric Motor Systems. Best practice for policies and programmes for electric motor systems
Policy Brief #1 – Motor Systems Tool for efficient system design
This briefing describes the Motor Systems Tool, a software tool developed by EMSA to optimise the energy performance of electric motor systems. It is an easy to use, manufacturer-independent
