Recent International Research on LED Quality Metrics and New Lighting Regulations in Europe
As LED lighting continues to penetrate lighting markets and take over conventional technologies in all applications, new metrics and research are on-going to address issues of quality and performance. Policy makers use the new research to help establish lighting policies that promote energy-efficiency and protect consumers and the environment. Since 2010 the IEA 4E Solid State Lighting (SSL) Annex has supported member governments on how to best promote energy-efficient, high-quality LED lighting. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) worked with the SSL Annex to offer a one-day seminar on 7 October 2019 covering recent research on health and testing, including topics such as temporal light modulation and lifetime. Key aspects of the new EU lighting regulation, including the EPREL database and the new EU energy label which takes effect in September 2021 were also presented. The meeting agenda and links to the presentations are given below.
