U4E Policy Guide on Motors

United for Efficiency (U4E) has recently released a Policy Guide on Accelerating the Global Adoption of Energy-Efficient Electric Motors and Motor Systems. The report guides policy makers on how to promote energy-efficient motors and motor systems in their national markets, with a special focus on emerging economies and developing countries.

Maarten van Werkhoven, EMSA Operating Agent, was the Taskforce Chair during the development of the report. He presented the report on 15 November 2017 on the margins of the 23rd UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, to an interested audience including high-level policy makers.

The report is part of a series of U4E guides, which cover lighting, room air conditioners, residential refrigerators and transformers. An additional overarching “Policy Fundamentals Guide” provides general guidance on the establishment of a national programme for energy-efficient products.

U4E is a global effort supporting developing countries and emerging economies to move their markets to energy-efficient appliances and equipment, under the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
