The IEC Advisory Committee on Energy Efficiency (ACEE) TG6 launched on 20 September 2019 in Tokyo the project ‘Coordination and Alignment of IEC and ISO Standards for Energy Efficient Electric Motor Driven Systems’ (CAISEMS).
Denmark officially joined the power electronic conversion technology annex.
China updated the draft for the crucial GB 18613 “Minimum allowable values of energy efficiency and values of efficiency grade for motors” with the future motor efficiency requirements. The minimum requirement for 3-phase asynchronous motors between 120 W and 1000 kW will be set at IE3. The formal introduction date has not been set.
The European Union published on 25 October 2019 the result of the revision of the Commission Regulation (EC) 640/2009 for electric motors. The new Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 will require minimum requirements for a wider scope of motors (0.12 kW – 1000 kW), will also include 8-pole motors and will abolish the former requirement of an IE2 motor plus a converter instead of IE3. Also, maximum losses for converters between 0.12 kW and 1000 kW at IE2 are requested. From 2023, IE4 will be required for motors between 75 kW and 200 kW.

The IEA 4E SSL Annex and the Danish Technical University (DTU) worked together to plan a one-day seminar covering recent research on health and testing, including topics such as temporal light modulation and lifetime. The seminar also covered the new EU energy label for lighting and the product registry database.
As part of the work of the Interlaboratory Comparison 2017 (IC 2017), the SSL Annex has today published the Nucleus Laboratory Comparison Report. This report presents the results of a comparison between the Korea Institute of Lighting and ICT (KILT), Korea, and Laboratoire national de métrologie et d’essais (LNE), France. This work was conducted to verify their measurement uncertainties and to bring equivalence of their measurements of the IC 2017 artefacts. Based on the results of this comparison, the correction factors for equivalence of measurements by the two Nucleus Laboratories as prescribed in IC 2017 Technical Protocol were determined.

An international seminar on certification, standards and requirements was held on 4 April 2019 at Le Meridien Hotel in Seoul, Korea. The Korean Institute of Lighting and ICT (KILT) and the SSL Annex worked together to organise this seminar which included leading experts from both the SSL Annex and regional governments.
