Motors Academy webinar – Advancing industrial inverters: the research roadmap for Wide Bandgap Power Semiconductors

Andrea Vezzini will present during a webinar at the Motors Academy on 21 November 2024 the development of a comprehensive “White Book on Wide Bandgap Semiconductor-Based Industrial Inverters.”

As part of the IEA 4E EMSA Electric Motor Systems Platform, Switzerland is leading this project in close cooperation with the IEA 4E PECTA Power Electronic Conversion Platform.

The planned White Book will delve deep into the use of wide bandgap semiconductors in industrial drives, such as SiC (Silicon Carbide) and GaN (Gallium Nitride). It will offer an in-depth exploration of the theoretical foundations, technological advancements, and practical applications of Wide Bandgap semiconductors, specifically within the context of industrial automation. It will as well address the opportunities and challenges these technologies present, providing a forward-looking perspective on their future impact.

For the upcoming White Book, an in-depth roadmap has been developed, showing the relevant challenges and the issues to be elaborated, in particular research activities for a well-founded knowledge-base. The targeted White Book is designed to be an invaluable tool for a broad audience, including professionals and engineers, manufacturers and suppliers, policymakers, regulatory bodies, standardisation organisations, and industry consortia, involved in power electronics and industrial automation.

After the presentation, you will have the opportunity to interact with the speaker during the Q&A session.

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Andrea Vezzini, Bern University of Applied Sciences
