Task 18 – Harnessing IoT for Energy Benefits

There are many IoT devices on (and entering) the market that embody consumer benefits related to lifestyle, security, convenience, health, etc. It is hypothesised that some of these products do not consider that there may also be energy savings available as a result of their connectivity. Thus the objectives of this topic are to:

  • Determine the extent to which currently-available IoT devices (typically found in residential environments) embody energy-saving features related to their connectivity.
  • Determine if policy intervention is warranted in order to encourage IoT devices (typically found in residential environments) to embrace connectivity-based, energy-saving features which may currently be overlooked.
