PDI is a response to calls by Governments, Intergovernmental Organisations and Expert groups for increased energy productivity to meet greenhouse gas mitigation targets.
PDI requires global government cooperation that can deliver regulatory solutions suitable for use and adaption within the legal bounds of national schemes to push global innovation and technology changes for appliances and equipment. These are informed by the dramatic improvement in long term product efficiency level recorded over the past 20 years, which have delivered increased functionality and efficiency without increasing costs for consumers.
PDI will have benefits for all stakeholders through reducing trade barriers for suppliers, lowering government regulatory burdens and reducing purchase prices for consumers through increased global competition.
