Electric Motor Systems Platform

Electric motors and motor systems in industrial and infrastructure applications with pumps, fans and compressors in buildings are responsible for 53% of the world’s total electricity consumption. New and existing technologies offer the potential to reduce the energy demand of motor systems across the global economy by 20% to 30% with short payback periods.

4E’s Electric Motor Systems Platform (EMSA) raises worldwide awareness of the efficiency potential of motor systems and provides guidance and tools to exploit the energy performance of new and existing motor systems worldwide.

New EU minimum requirements for industrial fans apply from 24 July 2026

From 24 July 2026, new EU ecodesign requirements for industrial fans become applicable under Regulation (EU) 2024/1834. The new regulation raises the minimum energy efficiency requirements for fans driven by motors from 125 W to 500 kW, encouraging the deployment of more efficient fan technologies across industry and buildings.
