This task involves developing a quantitative model of the “total energy cost” of connected devices, globally. The objective of the report (and model) is to quantify the total additional energy that results from devices becoming connected to a communications network.
The model will be developed as a living document, which can be updated as additional data becomes available. The purpose of the model is to provide a reputable source of energy use information for connected devices, e.g. for use by policy makers.
The first report on this subject was published in June 2019.
A policy brief related to this task was also published in April 2020.
In 2020 the TEM is being extended.
