New report evaluates the flexibility potential of heat pumps and electric vehicles

In a new report, commissioned by the 4E TCP EDNA Platform and the Users TCP, the Austrian Institute of Technology conclude that policy and behavioural measures are as important as technical ones. Economic incentives and regulations (e.g., carbon pricing, subsidies for flexible-ready equipment, interoperability standards) can accelerate the adoption of flexible assets, whilst awareness campaigns, capacity-building programmes, and certification schemes are likely to foster user trust and participation. The team at AIT introduce a high-level, generic model linking technical, economic, behavioural and policy factors and apply it to the case of Austria, focusing on heat pumps and EVs as representative examples of technologies with significant technical potential.
